Husband and wife team Aneta and Tom Gancarz, the owners of A&T Gancarz Photography, talk us through the key ingredients for your perfect family photo shoot. 

Manchester based photographers Aneta and Tom specialise in newborn, baby, children and family contemporary custom portraiture. “We can’t imagine life without photography. Photographs are memories that don’t fade with time, it comes from our hearts and we absolutely love what we do,” they told us.
 
As members of the NAPCP (National Association of Professional Child Photographers), Aneta and Tom are recognised for their creative excellence and accomplishments. In 2011 one of Aneta’s newborn pictures was awarded a Recognition of Merit, and this year two of her images have been awarded 2nd and 3rd place in the same category. “We feel very honoured and proud, plus Aneta was the only photographer from the UK with an award this year!”
So, what is the key to a successful photo shoot?

“Every person has a different story, different experiences and different personalities. As an artist, we translate their uniqueness into photographs. There are quite a few things, depending on the type of photo shoot it is.”
“When it comes to newborn photography, patience and of course skills are the key. You cannot rush while shooting a newborn baby; you have to take the time and wait until the baby settles down and falls asleep. We’ve had many occasions to learn different techniques that make our clients’ sessions exactly as they dreamed them to be.”
“As children get older, it’s all about the preparation and whether they accept the photographer. Make sure everyone is well rested and fed before arrival so that you can relax and enjoy your session. We try many ways to bring out the child’s personality, and if our little models can trust us enough to start treating us as a friend, that’s half the success! Don’t tell your children what to do during the shoot, just let them run around and have fun! Get them involved in something they love doing so that they forget about the camera, and choose a time of day when you feel your little one is at their happiest.”
